Addictions are an epidemic in Australia

The truth is we cannot escape knowing someone who has been affected by addiction. People often engage in addictive behaviors such as drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex, eating, shopping, internet addictions, etc., to avoid difficult thoughts and emotions that seem to be intolerable. Addictive behaviors may also serve to help prolong or maintain pleasant feelings that we want to hold on to.

Unfortunately, painful experiences are a part of life and pleasant feelings are fleeting as well…these are unavoidable aspects of being human.  When we try to escape or deny this reality by engaging in addictive behaviors, we create more distress and suffering in our lives. When this approach provides only short-term relief in exchange for long-term problems, it is essential to realize that the solution becomes self-defeating.

I don’t confine myself to any single theoretical orientation. I utilize a variety of approaches always favouring brief solution focused (BSF) methods

My practice is influenced by Positive psychology, Human Givens psychology, Internal Family Systems, Focusing, Emotional Intelligence, Positive NeuroPlasticity Therapies and Hypnosis.

I may have a favorite theory or therapeutic technique that I tend to use more often or fall back on, but I am always willing to and often use all that are available to me.

After all, the key here is to help you as quickly and as effectively as possible ~ Not to pigeon-hole you into some set way of looking at all people, whether it works for you or not.
